DRAWING DANCE: the figure in motion
$65 tuition
Friday, Sept. 24 6:30-9pm and Sunday, Sept. 26 2-4pm
The figure has been a dominant subject of drawing, painting, and sculpture for centuries, yet it is one of the most challenging subjects for artists. The biggest challenge many artists face in drawing and painting figures is capturing a sense of vitality. What seems real in art is often the simple gesture that describes the figures movement, rather than how well a figure itself is described. Through instruction and observation, this drawing workshop will help you see and capture fleeting gestures of figures in motion in order to bring more movement and life into your art.
Instead of drawing from posed models, we will sit in on rehearsals of Bouand DanceCompany as the dancers prepare newly choreographed works for an upcoming performance.
materials: Students should bring a large drawing pad or paper and drawing board, along with drawing media of their choice (dry, non-dusty media). Graphite pencils or bars, conte/hard pastels, oil pastels, or markers are recommended. Participants will receive a 20% discount on all materials purchased at Muse Art and Design, 4224 SE Hawthorne Blvd, from September 19 through 30.
optional: Sketches and drawings from the workshop and works based on workshop drawings will be featured in a special exhibit in conjunction with Bouand DanceCompany's October performance.
